I live by the motto “healthy, wholesome food should not only nourish you, it should taste good!”.
My journey started when I was in elementary school and could barely reach the top of the stove, proudly perfecting scrambled eggs at the age of seven. Planning a dinner menu before finishing breakfast was a regular occurrence. Teen magazines shared the shelf with recipes ripped out of Better Homes and Gardens. Such was my love of food.
While cooking and healthy living was always my passion, my career path took some twists and turns over the years before figuring out how to turn that passion into a career. It wasn’t until I was faced with a layoff from my corporate job that I took a leap of faith and enrolled at the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts. A decade later, I attended the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and became a certified nutrition health coach. This marriage of classical training and wellness is what spurred me to write The Inspired Plate cookbook and open The Inspired Kitchen.
I always tell my clients that it’s important to understand that not all calories are created equal. That is why I don’t focus on counting calories. What I DO focus on is preparing and educating my clients on food that nourishes inside and out. The body is SMART – if you don’t feed it properly (think the typical Standard American Diet), it’s going to send you a message that it needs more food because it’s not getting what it needs. If your body DOES get what it needs you can experience the following benefits:
- increased energy levels
- satiety – feel fuller longer
- reduced cravings
- better digestion
- feeling great in your body!
Eating the Rainbow
Eating a wide array of colors every day is the best approach to getting all the vitamins and minerals your body needs. Different colors indicate different nutrient profiles, so getting a little of each color in your diet every day maximizes the nutritional benefits.
