Health Highlights
This Old-Fashioned Baked Apple Recipe boasts warm spices, like cinnamon and nutmeg, for a delicious dessert or decadent snack that’s liver-friendly.

Ingredients

1 tbsp packed Brown sugar
1 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 tsp Nutmeg, ground
1/4 cup Pecans (finely chopped)
4 medium Apple (Honeycrisp, Ambrosia, Gala; or Golden Delicious apples work great)
1 tbsp Butter, grass fed, unsalted
3/4 cup Water (boiling)

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350°F
  2. Combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and chopped pecans in a bowl. This will serve as a filling for the baked apples.
  3. Core each apple using a knife or apple corer. Ensure roughly ½ inch of the apple remains at the bottom to serve as a sturdy base.
  4. Fill each apple with filling and top with a small square of butter.
  5. Bake apples for 35 – 40 minutes in a baking dish filled with hot water. Apples should be tender but not overcooked.
